The History of Silvercrest - Dinner Theater Intro

Ballad of Silvercrest

Now Silvercrest started as a booming mining town
The Indians were friendly…there was wealth to go around
Homesteads were a plenty and the water was still clean
That’s how the town of Silvercrest came into being

For many prosperous years things were good and folks were kind
The Mayor skimming profits but he didn’t rob em blind
The working girls were busy cause he turned his eye away
And the miners came in plenty at the end of a hard day

The owner of the golden mine was a right nice poke named Paul
His little wife was purdy and he loved her like paydirt
They opened up the Gold Dust to supplement their cash
With a backroom for gambling and upstairs rooms you could crash
Folks from every walk of life came in the joint to drink
No one could suspect that Silvercrest was on the brink

Then one fateful day, the gold mine done run dry
The miners started drinking more and shooting to the sky
The Doc had real problems and he didn’t know what to do
So he started drinking with ‘em and he ain’t yet come to

Paul closed down the mine cause he was mighty sick
He spent too many hours working with that old handpick
Rose, his wife, found him passed away on the hard wood floor
He’d suffered from that bad air but his legacy was sure

A fancy talking gent came riding in from the east
He took one look at Silvercrest and knew he was here to feast
He bribed the local farmers and the merchants in the town
To elect him...Duke… Mayor and the best dressed man…hands down
Once he was in office, he sure changed his tune
The townsfolk learned quickly that he was a buffoon

Now Silvercrest has dried up and the lonely winds a blowin’
There aint a person left around who even is worth knowin’
The Gold Dust is real rundown and the girls all moved away
And we’re all one breath from ghost town with it’s dusty decay
